Wisdom, I think
(because I am a long way from knowing for sure)
Has less to do with age
And more to do with seeing past the shadows we create
As we run from
Or dance around
Or try to resolve
The complexity of life as it is for us in any particular moment.
Wisdom pulls our humanity
And the humanity of others
To the surface of our lives
Offering us
At least for a moment
A new way to see and to understand and to live.
I don’t think you can try to wise.
I think it sometimes just happens.
Children can be wise in their innocence.
Youth can be wise in the questions they ask.
Grandparents can be wise in insight gained over the years.
It happens when honesty and searching and compassion and love all come together in some wonderful way.
I guess.
Because I am a long way from knowing for sure.
