Today, I pray for our country.
I am concerned.
After all, there is much to be concerned about.
We live surrounded by a crazy mixture of anger and guns and rhetoric and unbalance.
One adds to the other.
Fueling a downward spiral which, at moments, spins crazily out of control.
Those who can close their eyes
Or turn away.
With no stepping in to stop it.
And, we have become skilled in pointing fingers.
I blame you.
You blame me.
Neither of us accepts the blame which is ours
(And, there is certainly enough to go around!)
Enough to make us change.
Or, to make a difference.
Or to give up something of mine for the sake of ours.
I want to say we have lost something.
A sense of community.
A sense of nation.
An understanding of being in it together.
And, in some ways we have.
But really, I think, we never had it to begin with.
At least in the way we need it now.
We were just good at keeping
Those who were different
And, that which was different
In their place.
Pushed to the side.
Which for them
And for us
Is no place to be.
I pray for our country.
We need to find the courage
To find a better way.
Together.
