Between where I had been and where I was headed to next I saw them.
At an intersection while I was waiting for the light to turn green.
I am sure they were each in their staked out spots.
He on one side of the street.
She on the other.
I could not see the sign she held, but I could see his.
“Anything will help. God bless you.”
He looked at me as he walked by.
I looked straight ahead.
I find those moments awkward.
For many years, in one way or another, I have worked with programs which do their best to help those who find themselves living on the street survive.
Yet, there on that street corner….
The light changed.
My turn to go.
Yet, as I went through the intersection I found myself thinking about his sign.
Anything will help. God bless you.
He is right I thought.
Anything will help.
Whatever it is we can do or say or be.
And, in that whatever we find God’s blessing.
Theology on the street corner.
As we get ready for Christmas.
