We all want our children to be safe.
And, we all want our schools to be safe places.
We all want our schools to be places of creativity and learning where our children can test out new ideas and explore new ways of looking at life and world. And, we want teachers and staff and administration to be very aware and mindful of what is happening in their schools so our children can learn and do remain safe.

But…
(And, the buts are always the hardest, aren’t they?)
But, a 14 year boy is taken out of class and interrogated by police and not able to be in touch with his parents and is led out of school in handcuffs in front of his peers. A boy who was not hiding anything, who had already proudly shown what he had made to one teachers. A boy who others knew was an inventor and who liked to build things. A boy with a different sounding name. A boy who was Muslim.
