Years ago when we were shopping around for a new car, the salesman, in pointing out the features of the car, made sure to show us the side airbags which, at the time, were a relatively new. In showing them to us he said, “If it saves your life once it will be worth it.”
If it saves your life once….
I know there is much discussion about God these days.
Maybe there has always been.
And, much debate about whether or not church or religion is relevant.
Or more destructive than helpful or useful.
And, to tell you the truth, I wrestle with all those questions.
But, here is what I know at the depths of who I am.
Faith has saved my life.
More than once.
It has carried me through those times when darkness and doubt threatened to pull me under. It has been the source of the courage that helped me to do what was not easy, but what I knew was right. It has been the daily reminder of values I do my best to hold at the center of my life.
Others can call it something else.
Or attribute what I have experienced to something different.
But the language of faith is the language I have.
And, the language which works for me.
And, it has saved my life.
More than once.
