Six days ‘til Christmas.
Five days ‘til Christmas Eve.
Besides making sure the candles are ready and the sanctuary is clean, there are trips to the airport and to the train station and shopping to be done and meals to plan. Like you, I have my list and am checking it (at least) twice.
But woven into the details and the busyness and the excitement of the next five days, there will be a few moments when I shut my door and set aside my list and write. Putting my best words around what these days mean to me and what they might mean to others. Reminding myself and you of the hope wrapped up in the simple story of Jesus’ birth. I will not say anything new or anything different from what others have said far better than I ever will. But for a few moments, carved out from my lists, I will, once again, live with this story and what it means and allow something of it all to sink deeply enough within me. And, then, do my best to put my words around what I find.
In the rush of these next few days, may there be a few moments for you as well.
