I am generally not one to make a great deal of Hallmark holidays.
Yes. I call my Mom on Mother’s Day.
But, that’s about it.
But, I like Valentine’s Day.
I like the cards.
I like seeing the posts others add to their Facebook feeds.
I like the very public reminder that love matters.
Love is both so universal and so particular.
All of us (I hope and pray) know what love feels like.
Parent. Child. Close friend. Partner. Mentor. Community.
And, love is so unique.
The love I have for my wife.
And for my children and their partners.
And for my grandson.
And for the rippling circles around my life.
Is…
I am not poet enough to find the right words and put them in the right order to describe it.
I am who I am because of the love I have for them and, even more so, because of the love they have for me. Talk about miracles. These people have hung in there with me my entire life. Refusing to let me go. Allowing me to stand on their shoulders. Hanging in there with me when I am at my worst. Encouraging me and enabling me to be my best.
And, today reminds me to hold onto the promise that in the end…
Love wins.
