Today…

Today is a day of stark contrasts.
Ukraine.
Easter.
Syria.
Passover.
Jerusalem.
Ramadan.
(And, the list can and does go on.)
If we don’t hold both close
At the very same time
We minimize both.
Both the heartbreak
And the hope.
Both the pain
And the promise.
And our affirmations are empty.
And our prayers are hollow.
And our witness…
Well…what witness?

If there is any hope to be found
In our celebrations today
Whatever holy day you celebrate
It is only found in that embrace.
