Even with room darkening shades, 0ur bedroom begins to lighten as the sun begins to come up. Not really seeing it, my body somehow senses it and I begin to stir. Our dog, who is already awake, sees my movement and comes over to lick my hand. Time to get up.
The question Advent poses is this:
Do we get up or do we wake up?
Do we get up and do what we do each day?
Or, do we wake up and see…
Really see the world in which we live?
With it’s confusion and chaos.
With it’s splendor and beauty.
With it’s injustice and hatred.
With it’s compassion and kindness.
Allowing all of us to fill our heart with gratitude and break our heart with its sorrow.
Advent reminds us to wake up and to see.
