I wonder…
How many people who want to ban Muslims or register all American citizens who are also Muslim actually know one? ”
Or, have talked with one?
Or, have been to a mosque?
Or, know why men wear prayer caps and women hijabs?
I wonder…
How many people who say All Lives Matter instead of Black Lives Matter have ever listened to a black woman or man talk about what it is like to be black and to grow up in our country or grappled with their own role in the systemic racism which is still in the air we breath and the water we drink?
I wonder…
How many people who are Pro-life are also…
Pro prenatal care?
Pro child support?
Pro free birth control?
Pro family support including programs like food stamps?
Pro quality education which is adequately funded?
Against the death penalty?
I wonder…
How many people who applaud the President’s action to resume construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline would vote for the pipeline to go through their community or their neighborhood? (Obviously, the people Bismark did not want it through theirs.)
I wonder…
How many people who chant “Build that wall!” know their own family history?
Where their grandparents came from?
Or, their great-grandparents?
Did they come with some grand hope of pursuing the American dream or did they come fleeing poverty or persecution as my great great grandparents did? Wanting to survive. Wanting to be able to feed and to care for their families.
I wonder…
