What makes us be this afraid?
I am sure the Muslim community in Murfreesboro, TN is not burning American flags or hanging Christians in effigy. Or, organizing to impose Sharia law on the residents of the town. My guess is that they get up in the morning like you and I do and get their kids ready for school and themselves ready for work just like I do. They pay their taxes and pay their bills. They cut their grass. They plant flowers in their garden. They shop at the local grocery store and hardware store just like everyone else. They worry about and dream about and hope for the very same things you and I do.

The one thing that is different is they attend a mosque and not a church.
And, while they use different words than I do, they pray like I do.
They pray for guidance.
They pray for those in need.
They pray for peace.
They express their gratitude for the gifts of life and love and family.
They grieve for those they have lost.
The same things I pray for each and every day.

Maybe instead of protesting their presence we should be expressing our gratitude.
Gratitude that others from a different part of the world and a different way of expressing their faith are praying and hoping and working to make the world a better, safer, more humane, more holy place for us and for all.
Just like I do.
