On days like today, I need to remember that the whole world does not look like the headlines in the news. I need to remember that today more people will do good than do harm. More people will do their best to care for their families than harm another’s. More people will help than hurt. So, today I am mindful and give thanks for these small moments which grace my life and send their ripples out into the wider community and world.
On Saturday, I will gather with friends and family to celebrate the marriage of a young couple who will stand before us and promise to walk towards tomorrow together.
On Monday, friends will celebrate a life well lived and surround a family who has lost a father.
This afternoon I will walk down the garden and pull weeds and pick lettuce. Grateful for the food I have to eat.
Tonight friends and community members will gather to remember those who were killed in Orlando and to take one small stand against violence and bigotry and hate.
Long time friends are with youth in Appalachia rebuilding homes and, in doing so, redefining/expanding their understanding of neighbor and neighborhood.
For, all these and more…
Thank you.
