The plight of the 200+ Nigerian girls abducted from their school by the terrorist group Boko Haram has captured international attention. Each day new headlines track the tragedy.
Growing protests in Nigeria demand action.
Malala Yousafzai and Michelle Obama push the hashtag #bringbackourgirls.
A video of the girls is released.
The international community steps forward (finally) with offers to help.
The situation has also sparked a conversation about both the challenges and the importance of education for girls and the impact their education has on the culture and climate in underdeveloped and developing countries.
Along with everything else we hope concerning this situation,
Here is one more hope added to all the rest. .
I hope we begin to take the word our seriously.
As in ourgirls.
As in #bringbackourgirls.
For the moment our thinking and our acting makes the switch from them to us and from theirs to ours our world begins to be a better place because it has just become that much harder for us to turn our backs or to turn away.
